Strategic Academic Planning | Bishop Scott Boys' School Patna

Academic Plan

The academic programme at Bishop Scott Boys’ School is comprehensive to enable the students to develop intellectually and attain personality growth. Our Assessment/Examination policy involves a school-based review of the learning of students that covers all aspects of the student’s development. It is a developmental process of assessment that emphasises continuity in the evaluation and assessment of broad-based learning and behavioural outcomes. The design emphasises constructivist activities rather than rote learning by highlighting the importance of hands-on experience. The scheme is thus a curricular initiative, attempting to shift emphasis from testing to holistic education that endorses international understanding in an interdependent society. It aims at creating good citizens possessing sound health, appropriate skills and desirable qualities besides academic excellence. It is hoped that this will buoy our students to become lifelong learners, thereby addressing life’s challenges with confidence and success.

For Nursery to Class II

To ensure the continual and comprehensive progress of children, there is a combination of Assessments as Learning, Assessments for Learning and Assessments of Learning for students of pre-primary group and Classes I and II. Also, there exists a broad array of immersing activities premised on the postulates of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor growth spanning the entire academic session.

For Classes IX and X

As per CBSE guidelines, an average of the best two out of three periodic assessments would be taken in addition to multiple assessments, portfolios, and subject enrichment activities. Regular Class Tests shall be helpful to students in reviewing the progress of their understanding of the subject matter. Both Internal Assessment and Annual/Board Examination shall carry weightage as per the CBSE guidelines. School-based assessment of co-shcolastic areas (Work Experience, Art Education, Health and Physical Education, Discipline) also exists.

For Classes XI and XII

To foster competencies in learners, the assessment scheme comprises of theory, internal assessment or practical components as per the syllabus and assessment scheme given for each subject by CBSE. The board shall conduct the Annual examination for Class XII. The students shall also be assessed in these three areas – Health and Physical Education, Work Experience, and General Studies.

All the students must appear in the assessments and examinations to get a promotion to the next class. Periodic assessments and performance in the class during the entire year are also taken into account. Periodic tests will be part of the regular assessment. Minimum attendance should be in consonance with CBSE norms for each term/academic session to be eligible to appear in the examination. In the event of a student missing assessment due to absence from school, there shall be no re-assessment for the student. Regularity in attendance and work is imperative. The general criterion for promotion to the next class is that students need to secure 33% marks in periodic and term-end theory/practical examinations.

In harmony with the National Curriculum Framework 2005 statutes of experiential learning and creative thinking, CBSE has compulsorily integrated Art with the curriculum. Accordingly, Art Integrated Projects are mandatory to infuse critical contemplation, problem-solving skills, and multi-disciplinary linkages.

For a balanced development of students, co-curricular activities are carried out by the teachers and term-wise grading is done. The aspects of regularity, sincere participation, output and teamwork are the generic criteria for grading in the following co-scholastic activities:

  • Work Education (It refers to skill-based activities resulting in goods or services useful to the community.)
  • Art Education (Visual & Performing Arts)
  • Health & Physical Education (Sports/Martial Arts/Yoga etc)

The students will also be assessed for discipline, which will be based on factors like attendance, sincerity, behaviour, values, tidiness, respectfulness for rules and regulations, and attitude towards society, nation and others.

There is no provision to take tests in advance or re-test students who remain absent on the examination day. Students reporting late for examinations will not be given extra time to answer the question papers. Any use of unfair means during any of the examinations will result in strict disciplinary action. Promotions are granted on the basis of the whole year’s work; hence, regular attendance, continual work progress and performance in the examinations are of immense significance.
